La Habana Amazon Reserve is a small cozy resort located 8.5 kilometers from the city of Puerto Maldonado on the road bordering the Tambopata River.
The private reserve surrounding is adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve. We organize jungle walks with a tour guide to show you around. At the lodge there is a canopy observation tower you can visit any time you want in your free time to see all the amazonian birds.
The pool at the resort is perfect to have a relax or you just to chill out on the hammocks watching the beauty nature.
The amazon Reserve has five private cabins fully equipped with one or two twin beds, hot showers and 24 hours eletricity suply and WiFi. Ceiling fan,TV and fridge, balcony with hammock and view the forest.
You can also walk by your own to watch the Tambopata River nearby the lodge.

ITINERARY 3 DAYS/2 NIGHTS
THE AMAZON RESERVE LODGE
DAY 1
- You’ll be welcome by your friendly tour guide upon arrival to the airport in Puerto Maldonado.
- Road trip to the lodge will last 40 minutes bordering the River Tambopata.
- Introductory and breafly explaination to the facilities at the lodge and the plans for the day
- In the afternoon we’ll go to the river. It’s a perfect chance to look for animals on the banks of the river. The sloths live by the treetops by the river, they love hanging upside down to reach the sprouting leaves.Occasionally we can spot capybaras when the water level is low. Capybaras love to eat the grass by the river shores. They are considered the biggest rodent on earth weighing up to 40 kgsWe recommend to bring bathing suits ‘cause we’ll do a stop for swimming in the river. Locals enjoy going out to the river for keeping cool. To interact with them is also part of the adventure in the amazon.Watch a beautiful sunset before we get to the lodge.Torn on your flashlights and look for the nocturnal night creatures in the jungle. Insects are very active in the darkness of forest. Behind the insects there are spiders and other night predators looking to eat the meal of the night.You’ll have dinner in the restaurant at lodgeOvernight at the Amazon lodge resort. Enjoy listening the jungle sounds.
DAY 2
- We start the trip before sunrise to the Tambopata National Reserve – Lake Sandoval
- First we need to go on the boat 40 minutes downriver to reach the check point to enter inside the Tambopata Reserve
- We’ll hike three kilometers on a very interesting jungle walk of giant trees, palm swam forest to reach the magical Lake Sandoval
- This morning we will paddle a canoe to explore the surrounding area to observe all the wildlife on the lake. There will be sightings of flora and fauna. Different groups of monkeys on the trees and black caimans floating nearby. Lake Sandoval is also home for a family of giant river otters that lives in the area and they get plenty of fish to eat. Then spot the fishing birds, parrots and macaws and also many other species that occupy the palm swamp forest around the oxbow-lake
- You’ll enjoy breakfast in a local house. From there you have a stunning view to the landscape
- We go on the canoe to explore the other side of the lake that has four kilometers length
- Back to the river enjoy lunch at the restaurant in the lodge
- In the evening will go to the canopy observation tower to see the amazonian birds at the canopy layer
- Sunset will surprise us listening the sound of the birds returning to their nests. Also the jungle noises of the crickets and cicadas
- Relish a deliceous dinner in the restaurant
- Enjoy a pleasant evening and overnight at the Amazon Reserve lodge.
DAY 3
- Before sun goes up we’ll go to the parrots salt lick
- We get on board to reach the salt lick area near the river Madre de Dios. We’ll watch a great natural show. Find dozens of groups of parrots eating clay on the cliffs to obtain essential minerals to balance their diet and protect their stomach against poisoning seeds and fruits they consume in the forest. The birds fly over and over for a short period of time before they decide where to eat. We’ll have great chances to take pictures of them.
- We’ll enjoy breakfast watching the parrots.
- Afterwards we return to Puerto Maldonado.
- We’ll meet the fishermen to see what kind of fish we get from the Amazian Rivers to eat.
- We also prepare great traditional Peruvian Ceviche. You might have heard about it. We’ll teach you how to prepare and taste it from your own hands. You’ll become a Peruvian cheff on your vacations.
- After lunch you’ll be drop off to the airport.
